Dream of Silk werd verboden in Iran. In de film keert filmmaker Nahid Rezaei terug naar de middelbare school waar ze zelf twintig jaar geleden als jonge vrouw school liep, om er te praten met de jonge studenten. Ze vraagt hen naar hun hoop voor de toekomst en hun visie op een ideaal leven. De schoolmeisjes vertellen openhartig over de onderdrukking en ontberingen die ze als vrouw moeten doorstaan. Hun individuele ervaringen en ideeën dienen als commentaar op de huidige Iraanse samenleving.

In een statement vorig jaar voor Another Screen, liet Rezaei het volgende optekenen: “Two decades later, I hear the voice of the girls from my homeland again, as they fight for life and freedom, and have the entire world echoing their voices. I believe their numerous demands do not only belong to the women of their generation or the ones of twenty years ago, but also to their mothers, grandmothers, and generations before them who lived in this country. What remains clear is the increasing fearlessness of women and girls through the years.”
