The Bite
Film Fest Ghent presents a retrospective of Portuguese filmmaker and writer Isadora Neves Marques. Her oeuvre addresses many urgent themes, such as biopolitics, gender, and technology. She calls her work subtle sci-fi that, through criticism, attempts to imagine a better future.
In The Bite, not only are mosquitoes blood-sucking parasites, but extractivism is too: large-scale natural resource extraction specifically aimed at the global market. Marques points out the environmental problems and land destruction that result from it in South America.
Her films Exterminator Seed (2017), Becoming Male in the Middle Ages (2022), and My Senses Are All I Have To Offer (2024) will also be screened. The screening will be followed by a conversation with Isadora.
