Erpe-Mere

With the non-narrative, experimental film Erpe-Mere, Noemi Osselaer graduated from KASK School of Arts in 2019. The film starts with a series of impressions at the timeless pace of a dusty summer day in the Flemish countryside: tractors drive out, a quad race is happening under some trees, farmers are working in the fields, cows grazing in the meadow.

The 20-minute psychedelic study of the Erpe-Meerse landscape is utterly unpredictable. The mutation of the charming countryside is alienating, the slow rhythm successfully builds up to a hypnotic climax in which Osselaer's soundscape and visual collage are given the lead role.

In 2019, the film received a special mention from the jury at Film Fest Ghent, where it was part of the Competition for Belgian Student Shorts.

Erpe-Mere is part of CUT TO: GENT's guest programme at the 10th edition of Breedbeeld Kortfilmfestival. After the screening, a Q&A will be held with the filmmakers, including Noemi Osselaer.
