Fantastic Flowers
This compilation of short silent films on the theme of ‘flowers’ was produced between 1906 and 1920, with spectacular colors applied to each image using the Pathé Color process, or similar stencil techniques. The films attest to the specific color aesthetic of early cinema.
Includes short works by Alice Guy-Blanché (the first female film director ever), Segundo de Chomón (a Spanish film pioneer whose cinematic tricks were often compared to those of Georges Méliès), and Gaston Velle (a French special effects pioneer).
From June 11 to 14, CINEMATEK hosts the international symposium Form and Feeling in Silent Cinema, dedicated to the study of women in silent film.
The restoration of this film was made possible by A Season of Classic Films, an initiative of ACE - Association des Cinémathèques Européennes, supported by the EU Creative Europe MEDIA programme. The screening will be preceded by an introduction in English by Bruno Mestdagh, coordinator of the digital collection at CINEMATEK.
