Light, Noise, Smoke and Light, Noise, Smoke
Nishikawa’s analogue films often focus on the process of filmmaking itself. Light, Noise, Smoke and Light, Noise, Smoke shows a deceptively complex interplay between fireworks shots taken during a summer festival and the sonic imprints the same images leave on the optical soundtrack. This is a rhythmic and hypnotic triumph of a film that especially comes into its own when shown on 16mm.
Tomonari Nishikawa is a film curator who has selected over 500 films for various museums and screening venues. The Japanese artist is now based in New York, where he teaches.
This screening is part of the Âge d'or Weekend. Also scheduled that evening are films by Kevin Jerome Everson, Abigail Child, and Amy Alpern.
