'Best of' Short Film Festival Leuven
For the 16th time, the editorial team of Kortfilm.be hand-picked the 'best of the best' out of the entire programme of Short Film Festival Leuven.
Traditionally, a 'best of' is a mix of fiction, documentary, animation; films from Belgium and abroad; narrative-driven and slightly more experimental; very short to a little less short; a mishmash of genres. Lined-up this year are:
Vytautas Katkus' Cherries (15') which was awarded European Film Award candidacy at Cannes. Followed by Dutch filmmaker Douwe Dijkstra's newest film: Neighbour Abdi (30') premiered in Locarno last summer and has been winning one international award after the other.
La chute (22') is the impressive graduation film by Sebastian Schaevers at KASK School of Arts, which received a special mention from the jury at Film Fest Gent. Meanwhile, in backflip (7'), Nikita Diakur engages in a peculiar form of self-reflection by having a virtual avatar teach itself a backflip.
The closing film is Nest (22') by Icelandic director Hlynur Pálmason, a beautiful gem the filmmaker made together with his family during the 2020 lockdown.
In the presence of Sebastian Schaevers, Douwe Dijkstra and Abdiwahab Ali. The Q&A will be moderated by Florian Saerens.
In collaboration with Short Film Festival Leuven.
