Breedbeeld Kortfilmfestival 2024: Guest Programme Kortfilm.be

© Old Child (Elettra Bisogno, Hazem Alqaddi, 2019)

This short film programme illustrates the liberating power of cinema in a reflective, sometimes activist way. In each of the films, characters, filmmakers, and viewers search for order and freedom—a longer journey that takes us past Nepal, Tanzania, Palestine, and Tunisia.

The programme will be presented during Breedbeeld Kortfilmfestival. The screening will be followed by a conversation with filmmakers
Elettra Bisogno and Hazem Alqaddi, moderated by Laïka Planchenault.

© Songs of Love and Hate (Saurav Ghimire, 2024)
Saurav Ghimire, Nepal, Belgium, 2024, 17’

The charismatic host of a popular radio programme about matters of the heart is plagued by love issues himself. He seeks solace in the rugged Nepalese mountains while desperate calls from listeners echo on the soundtrack. Together, the radio host and his audience navigate the treacherous terrain of love.

© Lettre à Mohamed (Christine Moderbacher, 2013)
Christine Moderbacher, Belgium, Tunisia, Austria, 2013, 35’

This is a cinematic letter to the title character, who left Tunisia and now lives in Belgium. Shot in the first year after the Tunisian revolution, this is a poetic journey through a troubled landscape. Between order and chaos, the film reveals a land of disillusionment but also of humour and hope.

© An Ode To A Time I Loved Bread (Neema Ngelime, 2022)
Neema Ngelime, Belgium, Hungary, Portugal, Tanzania, 2022, 11’

A collage of memories of a boarding school in colonized Tanzania: Neema Ngleime compares her teenage years with those of her peers and discovers remarkable differences. She captures the absurd and sometimes unforgivable, questioning those anecdotes from the perspective of her present self.

Elettra Bisogno, Hazem Alqaddi, Belgium, Palestina, 2019, 16’

Old Child depicts the fragmented story of Hazem, who had to flee Gaza. Throughout this stream-of-consciousness montage of dreams and reminiscences, he searches for order but also for the beauty he left behind.
